Imperx Panther AI Camera Honored with Innovators Award

May 12, 2025 Boca Raton, Florida

Imperx’s Panther rugged industrial camera with embedded AI core, the AI1-P1911, has been recognized among the best by the 2025 VSD Innovators Awards.  The 2025 VSD Innovators Awards celebrates outstanding innovation in machine vision for the engineering industry.

The Panther camera is a groundbreaking achievement in industrial imaging, setting a new standard as the most rugged, low power, easy to integrate, flexible, and high-performance AI-embedded industrial smart camera on the market. By combining advanced machine vision with deep learning intelligence, it empowers designers, systems integrators, and end users with unmatched durability, flexibility, and performance.

The Panther camera will be demonstrated at Automate 2025 in Booth 20 from May 12 to May 15.

For designers and systems integrators, the Panther simplifies system integration within the factory by supporting Common Industrial Protocol (CIP™) and EtherNet/IP™, for direct integration with industrial automation systems such as Rockwell Automation and Siemens PLCs.

The camera’s deep learning core can run custom Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), allowing more freedom in selecting layers to build the neural network than solutions that rely on open-source models. Once trained on the task, the camera enables real-time object identification, absence / presence detection, and classification directly at the edge. By eliminating latency, bandwidth limitations, and data security concerns associated with cloud-based processing, the camera supports a fully in-factory smart camera solution that doesn’t require a connection to the internet.

Leveraging Imperx’s well-known expertise in ruggedization, it delivers protection from dust and moisture, resilience to vibration and shock, and the widest operating temperature range on the market, allowing integrators to bring embedded vision capabilities to the harshest environments including food and beverage manufacturing, intelligent transportation systems, and surveillance.

The camera features the 2.86MP Sony Pregius IMX429 Global Shutter CMOS sensor with a native resolution of 1944 x 1472 in a 2/3” optical format delivering up to 40 frames per second with GigE Vision®, Power over Ethernet (PoE)® output. Through careful design considerations, impact on the frame rate is minimized while running the AI core for real time decision making at the edge. The camera features high sensitivity, low dark current, and high dynamic range. Binning modes are supported, as are 8-bit, 10-bit, and 12-bit output options.

The Panther camera will be on display in the booth of Imperx partner Saber1 Technologies (Booth #20) May 12 – 15 at Automate 2025 in Detroit, Michigan. Imperx staff will be available in the booth to answer questions about the Panther camera and the live demonstration.

Every year, Vision Systems Design showcases and rewards companies, designers, and innovators who have contributed to the advancement of technology through their creative and impactful designs. 2025 VSD Innovators Award winners are chosen by the qualified judging panel chosen by the editorial staff of Vision Systems Design. The Panther camera was selected as a Bronze Honoree in the Embedded Imaging category.
